National Apprenticeship Week 2024 - An opportunity for growth
Today, on the third day of National Apprenticeship Week 2024, we continue our exploration into the experiences of our LEVC apprentices, highlighting their growth and learning. Each apprentice brings unique insights, shaping their personal and professional journey. Today we will be interviewing Amrit, currently completing his apprenticeship as a Manufacturing Engineer Technician. Lets see what he has to say about his experience.
Q: How has your apprenticeship experience contributed to your personal and professional growth?
A: My apprenticeship experience significantly contributed to my personal and professional growth as it provided me with great practical skills that have been useful in my career. The apprenticeship experience allowed me to form a strong work ethic, becoming a well-rounded member of my team.
Q: Can you share a specific project or task that challenged you and helped you develop important life skills?
A: During my apprenticeship, we had to form a business improvement project. For my project, I introduced handheld tablets that could be carried around with the operator when they were scanning material, reducing process time and walking distance. This project helped me in forming strong connections at work as well as improving my problem-solving skills, which I still use today in my current role as a manufacturing engineer.
Q: How do you see the skills you've gained during your apprenticeship benefiting you in future career opportunities?
A: I use the skills I learned in my apprenticeship in my day-to-day role as well as outside of work too. Additionally, by learning the skills previously through my apprenticeship, it gave me the knowledge and skills, and as a result, I have started my HNC in manufacturing engineering.
Q: What advice would you give to others considering apprenticeships as a pathway for skill development and career advancement?
A: Apprenticeships offer a unique combination of hands-on experience as well as formal education. If you approach the apprenticeship with a positive attitude and a commitment to continuous learning, you can lay the groundwork for a successful and fulfilling career.
Q: What strategies have you found effective in balancing work, training, and personal life during your apprenticeship?
A: The balancing of work and studying was okay for me, but it depends on the individual's commitment and the support from the employer, as well as the structure of the apprenticeship program. I always found that I could ask for help from my peers and would always offer my help to them, creating a stronger working relationship and bringing new ways of thinking and working.
Q: How has the apprenticeship program contributed to your ability to adapt to new technologies and industry changes?
A: The apprenticeship program has allowed me to adapt quickly to changes in the industry as well as with changes to technologies by promoting continuous learning and exposure to different areas of the business. We are constantly looking for new ways of doing things and using new software, and commitment to these changes allows us to adapt quickly to change ***
As we celebrate the journeys of our LEVC apprentices, their experiences showcase the value of hands-on learning, adaptability, and a commitment to growth. Follow on this week, as we continue to provide further insights into the journeys of our LEVC apprentices.
